A Life Changing Trip

By Karen Senden

At the age of 75 I was by far the oldest member of the team traveling to Village of Eden in Uganda, Africa for Esangalo Day Camp. It was the trip of a lifetime and I'm so glad I didn't decide I was too old to do it! It was truly an eye-opening, life changing trip. I loved the time spent every day with the team; praying, sharing and encouraging one another and getting to know the missionaries who live there. But for me, the time spent with the beautiful children of Uganda was the highlight.

I knew before I left home that I would be meeting four children who are being sponsored by friends from my church, but I had not thought of sponsoring a child myself. That was until I fell in love with a tiny three-year-old girl who is a resident at the Village of Eden and was in need of a sponsor. I have two sons and five grandsons, so it is special to have a little girl to pray for and send my love to.

"So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three;

but the greatest of these is love."

1 Corinthians 13:13

I was encouraged to spend time praying about sponsoring before I committed and realized it would be a stretch on my limited income. However, I know God will bless it and that through my sponsorship I am supporting not only this precious child but also the Village of Eden and the wonderful work being done there. My hope was to bless people there and to serve the Lord, but I was the one who received the blessing!
